CSIA is the governing body for ski instructors in Canada, and trains and awards the various CSIA instructor qualifications for potential ski instructors. CSIA awards qualifications at levels one to four and also offers a separate snow park certification also.
Snow Park Certification
Snow park certification is designed for any skier with snow park experience looking for an introduction to snow park teaching skills, and includes practical ski improvement and teaching methods. Upon successful completion of the three day snow park skills course, candidates are certified to teach snow park skills up to intermediate level.
The snow park certification course is an entry level qualification, and candidates are accepted from fifteen years of age upwards.
CSIA Level 1
At level one of qualification with CSIA, you will receive a basic introduction into teaching skiing within the remit of the CSIA guidelines and methodology in order to teach beginner and novice skiers. The course involves a combination of practical teaching skills and technical understanding, and is in large part geared towards the teaching of children. Successful completion of the course will provide potential instructors with an understanding of strategies to develop skiers up to intermediate level, techniques for effective assessment and development, and feedback on personal ski performance. Level one qualification also involves the completion of online workshops in customer service, technical basics, teaching children, and basic methodology.
Upon full completion of level one qualification, including the required online workshops, you become a member of the CSIA and are licensed to teach at level one.
